Joanne Michaels' first visit to my radio program, The Woodstock Roundtable, was way back in 1989. She had moved up to Woodstock from New York City where she'd been a high-powered book editor for a major publisher. Anticipating the trend in publishing to go for the big best-seller at the expense of supporting new and innovative writers, Joanne became an independent book publisher and distributor with a distinctive focus on Woodstock and the Hudson Valley.
Here we are 20 years later and Joanne is still going strong as an independent advocate of Hudson Valley authors, both well known and not. This Saturday at the Millbrook Winery in Dutchess County Joanne is producing another in her series of Sip & Sign events featuring over 20 Woodstock and Hudson Valley authors who will be signing their books. The authors and books include:
Michael Lang, The Road To Woodstock; Elliott Landy, Woodstock Nation: The Spirit of a Generation; Bob Berman, Cosmic Adventure; Martha Frankel, Hats & Eyeglasses: A Family Love Affair with Gambling; Barry and Matt Ballister, The Fruit & Vegetable Book; Nikki and David Goldbeck, Healthy Highways; Scott Ian Barry, Wolf Empire.
From the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Woodstock to the cultivation of world-class food being grown and distributed here, the event is a great demonstration of the uniqueness and excitement of this region.
The event is this Saturday from 1-4 at the Millbrook Vineyards & Winery in Millbrok, NY. For more information go to www.millbrookwine.com
