While many of us living in the Hudson Valley prefer putting down roots in a country setting, it's interesting to discover the results of the latest survey identifying those cities which are the best places to live. The survey is conducted each year by a consulting firm specializing in health and human resources. The rankings take into consideration 10 key categories such as health, environment, productivity, employment relationships, creative opportunites, etc.
The highest ranking U.S. city comes in at #29. Can you guess which city? (answer is at the end of this blog).
Here are the top 10 cities:
10 Sydney, Australia
9 Bern, Switzerland
8 Franfurt, Germany
7 Munich, Germany
6 Dusseldorf, Germany
4 (tie) Auklan, New Zealand and Vancouver, Canada
3. Geneva, Switzerland
2 Zurich, Switzerland
1 Vienna, Austria
Boston is #37, New York, #49. Other U.S. cities in the top 50 include Portland, Seattle and Chicago.
So obviously Europe dominates. There is an interesting quote that's becoming better known: "In Europe they work to live; in the U.S. we live to work." Which is working out better?
